What ENERGY STAR® Windows Can Do for Your Home in Dallas, Texas
ENERGY STAR® windows can be found gracing an ever-growing number of homes in the Dallas area of Texas. What is it that makes them so popular among local homeowners?
The first thing to understand about ENERGY STAR® windows is that, in order to be able to call themselves ENERGY STAR® certified, they must be proven to perform at levels that either meet or exceed a variety of demanding energy efficiency guidelines that have been established by the federal government.
Performance ratings are broken down into five categories:
This is a measure of how well a window insulates. The lower the U-Factor, the better.
SOLAR HEAT GAIN COEFFICIENT
SHGC measures how well a window blocks heat caused by sunlight. The lower the SHGC, the less solar heat a window lets pass through it.
Measured in cubic feet of air passing through one square foot of window area per minute, AR is the rate at which air passes through window joints.
The amount of light a window lets through is called its visual transmittance, or VT. The higher the VT, the more light enters the indoors.
This is a measure of a how well a window is resistant to water buildup and is scored on a scale of 0 to 100, with a higher score translating to better water buildup resistance.
